Around 50 children fall ill due to DPT vaccine in UP’s Aligarh

According to news agency PTI, at least 50 students of a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district fell ill after getting the DPT vaccine. All the students were taken to the nearby Government Primary Health Center for treatment and were later discharged.

The incident is of Nai Ka Nagla village under Dadon police station of Aligarh on Friday.

District Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Neeraj Tyagi clarified on Saturday that children affected by such vaccination were only suffering from a ‘regular reaction’.

“A team of doctors was sent to the affected village on Saturday morning. All the children have now been cured and discharged,” Tyagi told PTI.

The incident sparked controversy when several parents alleged that their children were forcibly vaccinated without informing them. However, the CMO also refused to respond to allegations that the children were forcibly vaccinated without informing their parents.

The parents of a student alleged, “When some students tried to run away from the school to avoid vaccination, the school gates were closed.”

“Media reports said that the children had fallen seriously ill,” CMO Tyagi told reporters.

He acknowledged that around 50 children were brought to the government health center in an ambulance, but they only suffered from the routine reactions that usually occur after such vaccinations.

He said that despite some children vomiting, all have been cured.

Meanwhile, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party District President Ramavatar Yadav has written a letter to the Chief Minister urging him to order an inquiry into the matter.
