About 5.34 lakh students have been enrolled in classes I to VIII in government schools.

Trichy: The school education minister said that the admissions in government and aided schools reached 9 lakh this year following the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure. Ambil Mahesh Poyamozhi on Saturday.
He told reporters in Thanjavur that this year around 50,000 students have been admitted to kindergarten classes. The minister was interacting with the reporters after inspecting the ongoing works for setting up stalls of the book fair to be held in Thanjavur palace complex. “We have asked experienced teachers to look after the students. Steps are being taken to appoint special teachers. Full classes will resume after the appointment of special teachers,” the minister said.
“Around 5.34 lakh students are enrolled in classes I to VIII in government schools. Considering government aided schools also it will be around 7 lakh. If we include classes 9 to 12, the total number of students The number of those who took admission this year will be around 9 lakh.”
The Minister urged the students to wear face masks, use sanitizers and undergo tests if they are suffering from fever in the backdrop of increase in the cases of COVID. The school authorities have been asked to follow the standard operating procedure without any lapse.
He said the government is taking steps to provide coaching classes to 16,000 students who applied for NEET this year and is also continuing its legal battle to cancel the exam.
