Around the world: Champions Barcelona welcome Real Sociedad, Arsenal visit in Nottingham

england

The Premier League title race could be settled if Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal, but Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is refusing to give up hope of catching Manchester City. “We’re still there,” he says. “With two games to go we can still be crowned champions against the best team in Premier League history.”

Indeed, Arsenal’s best hope is to prolong the race, with City one win away from being crowned champions. Forest can take a giant step towards top-flight survival with a win that would move it six points clear of the relegation zone.

Everton are one point above the drop zone and travel to Wolverhampton. In the battle for Champions League qualification, fourth-placed Manchester United traveled to Bournemouth and fifth-placed Liverpool hosted Aston Villa.

Bayern Munich can take a major step towards retaining the Bundesliga title with a win over third-placed Leipzig. Bayern leads Borussia Dortmund by one point with two games left, and its goal-difference advantage means victory over Leipzig would effectively leave Dortmund to stay in the title race against Augsburg on Sunday .

Elsewhere, Union Berlin is chasing Champions League qualification for the first time as it visits Hoffenheim, and only a win against Bochum will keep alive Hertha Berlin’s slim hopes of avoiding relegation.

Fellow relegation candidates Schalke host Eintracht Frankfurt and league top scorer Niklas Fulkrug could return from injury as his Werder Bremen team plays Cologne.

Barcelona will receive the trophy for their recently won league title when they host Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou. Barcelona clinched their first major title since Lionel Messi’s exit last weekend with a win at Espanyol.

Sociedad are in fourth place and trying to wrap up the final Champions League berth. Barcelona’s Gavi Paez is suspended while Pedri Gonzalez and Ronald Araújo are injured.

Villarreal are five points clear of Sociedad in fifth place before they visit red-hot Girona. Girona have moved up to seventh after losing just one of their last nine matches.

Almeria and Getafe both want a win to avoid relegation. Almeria hosts Mallorca, while Getafe welcomes previously relegated Elche.

Eighth-placed Athletic Bilbao also plays Celta Vigo as it tries to overtake Girona for a Conference league spot.

Italy

Following their Champions League exit, AC Milan need to get back on track against already relegated Sampdoria to try to make it into next season’s competition.

Milan lost 1-0 at Inter Milan in the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. Milan have won just one of their last six games in all competitions and that leaves the Rossoneri four points behind fourth-place Lazio and the final Champions League qualifying spot.

Atalanta are three points further back and host relegation-threatened Hellas Verona. A point would see Verona move out of the bottom three.

The situation remains bleak for Cremonese, who are six points from safety and host Bologna.

France

Marseille can overtake Lens for second place in the league if it can win at Lille. In only the second game, Nantes could climb out of the drop zone with a home win over Montpellier.
