Team India were out of contention for the Asia Cup 2022 final after Pakistan beat Afghanistan by one wicket in a tense Super 4 match in Sharjah on Wednesday (September 8). India and Afghanistan are out of the tournament without a win in two matches and the match between the two sides here on Thursday has become insignificant.
In the final to be played on Sunday, Pakistan and Sri Lanka secured their place with four points each with two wins each. India are third in the Super 4 points table with zero points like their Thursday match rivals Afghanistan.
Even a win in his last Super 4 match Will take them to just 2 points which will not be enough to beat the top two – Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

India looked ignorant in the Super 4 stage after victories over arch-rivals Pakistan and Hong Kong in the group matches. They lost to Pakistan by five wickets and then went on to lose by six wickets in a close match against Sri Lanka.
Despite the defeat, India still had a mathematical chance of qualifying for Sunday’s final if Afghanistan beat Pakistan on Wednesday. Besides this, India also had to do Afghanistan a favor by beating Afghanistan by a huge margin on Thursday and Sri Lanka by beating Pakistan on Friday.
After the loss against Sri Lanka, India’s fortunes ran out of their hands and with Pakistan snatching away the win against Afghanistan in the final over in the Super 4 match, all hope was lost which could have gone either way.
Sri Lanka will now take on Babar Azam’s Pakistan for the title of Asia Cup 2022 in the final match to be held in Dubai on Sunday (September 11).
