Asia Cup 2022: Sreedharan Sriram takes charge of Bangladesh team, Russell Domingo out of T20 set-up

Bangladesh will not have a designated head coach for the Asia Cup, but their board announced on Monday that technical advisor Sridharan Sriram, former player India The all-rounder will assist the team in the tournament.

with eight days to go for the team’s first match of the tournament against Afghanistan in Sharjah, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan said that head coach Russell Domingo has been asked to focus on Test and ODI cricket.

“There will be no head coach (for the T20 International team),” Hassan told reporters here on the eve of the team’s visit to the UAE.

“Russell Domingo will not be a part of the T20 set-up. That will be with ODIs and Tests.”

“We have a batting coach (Jamie Siddons), a spin coach (Rangana Herath), a fast bowling coach (Alan Donald) and a fielding coach (Shane McDermott).

“We have the captain (Shakib Al Hasan). We also have technical advisor (Sriram) for T20. He will give a game plan. We will have the team director, Jalal (Younus) bhai and I. And who (we need)?” Hassan asked.

The 47-year-old South Africa’s defensive attitude was exposed by BCB’s Cricket Operations President Jalal Younis during their first series loss against Zimbabwe earlier this month. Bangladesh lost both the T20I and ODI stages by the same 2-1 margin.

“Our head coach (Domingo) is a very knowledgeable coach, but he is not that aggressive. We want that aggression,” Younis was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Lauding the move, Dominigo said the split coaching plan for Bangladesh was a “great idea”.

“It gives me good focus on Test matches and 50-over stuff,” Domingo said. “We have had some good and bad results in T20. I don’t think it is wrong to adopt a new approach in T20. I am very open minded about this.

“It’s not my team. It’s not about me. I’m there to improve the team. It gives me good clarity with 50-overs.” World The cup is coming. We know there is a lot of work to be done with the Test team.

The Shakib Al Hasan-led side is placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan and the two teams make it to the Super 4.

“I believe we are a good team. If we can make the best use of our resources and we can do it once or twice, you will feel that we have the potential,” Shakib said.
