The Sri Lankan team defeated Pakistan by a margin of 23 runs to win the sixth Asia Cup title at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. It certainly means a lot to a nation that is gripped by the tide of economic crisis. All this with Bangladesh team director Khalid Mahmood taking a dig at the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lankan team, saying they lack a world-class bowling attack. This somehow pushed all the wrong buttons for the Sri Lankan outfit and in many ways inspired them to change their fortunes.
The Sri Lankan team entered the finals by defeating international giants like Bangladesh, Afghanistan and India. The stakes were high on the Sri Lankan side when they locked horns with Pakistan in the all-important final but were soon reduced to 58/5. It didn’t put him down and how he turned the match on its head is something that will be recorded in the history books.
