Ateeq-Ashraf Massacre: Days after the sensational murders of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, Islamic terrorist group Al-Qaeda has threatened to launch attacks on India to avenge the incident.

In its 7-page magazine released by al-Qaeda’s propaganda media wing, the terror group dubbed the two gangsters “martyrs” and vowed to avenge their killing. In addition, the group also promised to “liberate the Muslims”.

Ateeq Ahmed has accepted that he has links with ISI.

During police interrogation, Atiq reportedly confessed that he had links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence and terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to an FIR lodged at Shahganj police station, Ahmed has confessed to having links with Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Police said Ahmed’s statement was recorded on the orders of the court.

“ISI, using drones, used to drop weapons in Punjab, and someone linked to ISI would collect these weapons and send some of them to Lashkar, some to Khalistan separatist organizations, and some weapons like .45 bore pistols , AK-47 and RDX were provided to me and I used to pay for the same. People from these organizations also used to come to my place. And the information gathered from their conversation revealed that they wanted to create a big incident in the country. He also told the police that he knew the whereabouts of some of these people linked to ISI and Lashkar, while his brother knew about others. According to Atiq, weapons taken from (LeT and ISI) were used in the killing of Umesh Pal and two policemen in February this year.

Atiq-Ashraf’s murder

It is worth mentioning that on Saturday (April 15) night in Prayagraj, mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in the presence of the police. The incident took place when the police were taking them to a medical college in the district. Three people attacked the miscreants by posing as media persons. They have been identified as Lavlesh Tiwari (22) resident of Banda, Mohit alias Sunny (23) resident of Hamirpur and Arun Maurya (18) resident of Kasganj. All of them allegedly had a criminal background.

Earlier on Thursday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) also recreated the crime scene where Atiq and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in police custody. Besides this, the judicial committee constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government also visited Prayagraj to understand the sequence of events leading to the murder of the two. During the encounter, the policemen who were taking both the miscreants along were also called to the spot under investigation.
