Pothu Dikshitar, the hereditary custodian-cum-archaka of Sri Sabanayagar Temple in Chidambaram, said he had appointed two external auditors since 1955 and sought the services of government-licensed appraisers to go into the temple’s valuables and accounts Was.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pothu Dikshitar’s legal advisor G. Chandrasekhar said, “There is no room for any doubt [or] For anyone to doubt the genuineness of the administration of the temple. Since we want everything to be transparent and accountable, we have resorted to auditing the temple valuables and accounts by hiring licensed appraisers and two external auditors. This process started on February 2 and is still going on.

If the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department has any doubts about the administration of the temple, they should present within 15 days the proof of the alleged allegations or irregularities made by Dikshitar in the public domain. “We will reply to the allegations.

Shri Chandrasekhar said that it is indeed a sad situation that the HR&CE department is repeatedly defaming Dikshitar. “The temple is run by a Sampradaya and there is no legal obligation on the part of Dikshitar to cooperate with the HR&CE department for the audit of the accounts of the temple. However, we do not want to hold back anything and have extended the conditional approval for audit of temple valuables from 1955 to 2022.

Mr. Chandrashek said that the HR%CE department was engaged in spreading false propaganda and misinformation about the administration of the temple at the behest of a former Dikshitar and some others.
