Australia whitewashed by Jadeja, India take 2-0 lead in series

India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-0 lead in the four-match series on Sunday as Ravindra Jadeja decimated Australia with a six-wicket win inside three days of the second Test.

Jadeja claimed a career-best 7-42 as he and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-59) bundled out Australia for 113 in their second innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Chasing 115 to win, of India The top-order faltered but the meager target meant their victory, which came on the third day of the second session, was never in doubt.

Captain Rohit Sharma scored 31 and Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored an unbeaten 31, scored the winning runs in his 100th Test.

Earlier, progressing to an expected 61-1, Australia added 52 runs before a spectacular collapse from Jadeja and Ashwin.

Asked to open in place of the injured David Warner, Travis Head sent Ashwin’s third ball of the day for a boundary to signal his attacking intent.

However, the off-spinner got his revenge three balls later when he lofted Head (43) for a lead which was collected by Sreekar Bharath behind the stumps.

Once Jadeja sent back Marnus Labuschagne (35), nine of the 11 batsmen in Australia’s innings posted single-digit scores.

On a pitch that was dominated by spinners, many Australian batsmen fanned their sweep shots to either bowl or get out lbw.

The third Test in Indore will start from March 1.
