Auto Sales June 2022: Tata Motors records highest ever PV sales

Tata Motors witnessed sales growth registering a new high in monthly passenger vehicle sales with 45,197 units sold in June 2022. Month-on-month sales also increased by 87 percent, with a 4 percent increase in sales. Month-on-month growth in June 2022 saw an additional 1,857 units sold in the month. In the first quarter of the new fiscal, Tata said it has registered a significant 102 per cent year-on-year growth in passenger vehicle sales, up 6 per cent over the previous quarter. The passenger vehicle segment also had the company’s best performance in a quarter, with sales of 1,30,125 units in the first quarter.

Speaking on the performance of the brand. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd said, “Demand for passenger vehicles remained strong in Q1 FY23 as well, while the supply side was marginally affected due to the lockdown in China. To overcome the challenges, Tata Motors posted record breaking monthly sales (June’22) as well as quarterly sales (Q1 FY23). In the month of June’22, the sales were the highest ever at 45,197 units, registering a growth of 87 per cent over June’21. Quarterly sales of 130,125 units for Q1 FY23 were also the highest ever, registering a growth of 102% over Q1 FY22. ,

Tata says that it has received strong customer response for the new Nexon EV Max.

Chandra said the company’s EV sales of 3,507 units were also its best figures in monthly sales, with the company seeing a strong customer response for the recently launched Nexon EV Max. He also revealed that Tata’s SUVs in particular accounted for around 68 per cent of the companies’ demand in the first quarter of the total PV sales.

“Sales of Electric Vehicles scaled new heights with quarterly sales of 9,283 units in Q1 FY2013 and highest ever monthly sales of 3,507 units in June’22. The Nexon EV Max that was launched in May 22 has seen tremendous demand. Going forward, we expect progressive improvement on the supply side including critical electronic components. We will continue to keep a close watch on the rising demand and supply situation and take appropriate action,” Chandra said.

Commercial vehicle sales also increased year-on-year, though only passenger carriers registered growth in Q4 FY2022

On the commercial vehicle front, Tata Motors registered a growth of 14 per cent with a year-on-year growth of 69 per cent over May 2022. The quarterly figures, however, painted a different picture. While sales in the April-June window grew 101 per cent year-on-year, the number was down 16 per cent in the fourth quarter of FY22. Only passenger carriers reported growth in quarterly numbers with a 57 per cent increase over the fourth quarter.
