Avalanche hits Himachal Pradesh, kills two Border Roads Organization men

Two Border Roads Organization (BRO) personnel were killed while another is missing when an avalanche hit them near Cheeka in Lahaul sub-division of Lahaul-Spiti district on Sunday evening. The search for the missing person went on for hours but the search operation was called off due to low temperature and visibility.

According to officials, the dead have been identified as Ram Budh (19) and Rakesh. The missing person has been identified as Pasang Tshering Lama, a resident of Nepal.

The State Emergency Operation Center has said that the search operation will be started again on Monday to find the missing person.

“Two persons were killed and one went missing in an avalanche near Cheeka in Lahaul and Spiti district at around 3 pm yesterday. Rescue efforts were called off due to low temperature and visibility,” the State Emergency Operation Center said. Will start again tomorrow.”

The center said, “District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC) Lahaul and Spiti informed that an avalanche occurred near Shrinkula Pass, 35 km (Cheeka) in subdivision Lahaul.” It is said that, “In this incident three BRO casual laborers got buried under the debris. There was also a snow eater/dozer lying there during the landslide. The bodies of two sides have recovered and are being brought to RH Keylong.” “
