Award workers started batch, pressure for long pending demands

Awardees from across the city gathered at KR Puram on Saturday for the launch of the ‘Bengaluru Jatha’ organized by the BBMP Pourakarmika Sangha. Apart from regularization of services, some of the main demands include housing for poor workers, free education for their children, equal pay for equal work, minimum wage of ₹35,000, respectful work environment and immediate action against perpetrators of sexual harassment and caste violence. . . They are also demanding immediate relief for the families of the pourakarmikas who lost their lives to COVID-19.

The batch was inaugurated by senior Sangh leader Ravanamma, who has been at the forefront of the struggle of the Pourkarmikas. Union Secretary Ratnamma said that one of the main demands of the Sangh was to regularize the services of not only the Pourkarmikas but also the drivers and helpers. The jatha and dharna will continue till all their demands are met by the civic body.
