Azam Khan seeks ‘Z’ category security citing threat to life, police will assess threat level

Senior Samajwadi Party MLA, Mohammad Azam Khan has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to “restore its ‘Z’ category security” citing “threats” since he faced several cases.

Expressing security concerns, Azam Khan said, “I had ‘Z’ category security earlier. It was withdrawn by the present state government. It was also recommended by a senior police officer. Presently I am getting ‘Y’ category security. ‘ Category security is being provided but it looks like the security provided to every MLA. I want my previous security to be restored as I am facing many threats due to all the cases registered against me. Used to be.

Rampur SP Ashok Kumar said, “We have not received any application from Azam Khan to enhance his security. They have been provided ‘Y’ category security and the required number of security guards are always with them. However, I will ask the local intelligence unit to assess the threat level and write to the state government accordingly.

Azam was released on bail in May after spending nearly 27 months in Sitapur jail. He has about 89 cases registered against him like book theft, chicken theft, idol theft, electricity theft, land grabbing, forgery and land grabbing.

He successfully contested the 2022 assembly elections from jail.
