Center reduced security of Babul Supriyo
Official sources said that the central government has reduced the armed security cover of central paramilitary commandos given to Babul Supriyo, who left the BJP and joined the Trinamool Congress on Saturday.
The cover has been reduced from the second highest level of Z category to Y category after the Union Home Ministry issued an order on Friday.
On the downgrading of Supriyo’s security category, sources said a recommendation was made by the central security and intelligence agencies in this regard.
Supriyo, 50, who was removed as a minister from the Narendra Modi cabinet in July, is being guarded by an armed contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Out of around six-seven commandos, Supriyo will now be guarded by two armed personnel during the yatra.
Sources indicated that further review of his cover cannot be ruled out, and that the task of his security could be entrusted entirely to the West Bengal Police as he has now joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
