Shivamogga/Chikkamagaluru: A chicken shop owner was allegedly attacked by a group of pro-Hindu activists over a halal meat dispute at Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, resulting in a complaint being filed with the Hosmane Shivaji circle police station.

Shivamogga SP BM Lakshmi Prasad told TOI that six or seven people had visited the chicken center in Hosmane and demanded non-halal meat. An argument ensued and Hindu activists allegedly thrashed Tauseef. In another incident in Purani Bhadravati, police said Hindu activists had allegedly threatened a hotelier.
A separate complaint has been filed against the workers for abusing the hotelier. Police said they questioned five Hindu activists. Meanwhile, members of Hindu organizations have launched a campaign demanding a ban on halal meat in the main roads of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts. Bajrang Dal workers campaigned door-to-door and distributed pamphlets, urging people to buy groceries and meat from ‘Hindu shops’. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that his government would “look into the serious objections” raised on halal meat.
He said that different organizations are running their own campaigns.
