Banana Bonanza: Display featuring 31,751 kg of banana breaks world record

Each year the Guinness World Records sees a different level of competition. People compete in multiple categories and break some of the most bizarre records. For example, making the world’s largest cake pop or even growing the most tomatoes from a single stem! While there is no end to such records, one more has been added to the list! This time it is for the biggest food display. The world’s largest fruit display was set up outside a store in the quiet suburb of Westmont in the state of Illinois, United States, on June 8, 2022. Over 70,000 pounds (about 31,751 kg), in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. Bananas were put in a huge display.

Fruit supplier, Fresh Del Monte, and retail operator Jewel-Osco collaborated on the display. They agreed to build a large banana stand outside a Jewel-Osco store in Westmont. Their effort paid off, as the Guinness Adjudicator declared the fruit display, the Banana Bonanza, “the world’s largest fruit display.” The Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau posted photos of the fruit display and announced the Guinness World Record award on its official Facebook page. He noted that the fruit display took three days to create while sharing the photos. The Confederacao de Agricultura e Pecuaria do Brasil set the previous Guinness World Record in 2016, when it collected 41,459.78 pounds (18,805 kg) of fruit at one location in Brazil. 19 different fruits of different types were seen in this record. These fruits were also distributed at the end of the programme.
