Bangalore on rain alert for next 5 days, roads flooded, wall collapsed

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow rain alert in Bengaluru, Karnataka. According to news agency ANI, the Meteorological Office has also predicted light rain in the city during the next five days.

According to the weather forecasting agency, the maximum temperature will be in the range of 27-29 degrees Celsius and the minimum will be between 15-17 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity is also expected to be 60-89 per cent in the morning and 26-48 per cent in the afternoon.

Heavy rain lashed Bengaluru on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Incessant rain in Bengaluru led to a wall collapse near Majestic, resulting in damage to several four-wheelers parked on the road, as reported by ANI.

Last month, Bengaluru experienced a flood-like situation when the city was hit by severe waterlogging due to heavy rains, affecting traffic in several areas of the city.

Residents of Bengaluru had to bear the brunt of severe waterlogging as water has not receded from roads and suburbs after Monday’s rains. Due to heavy rains, flood like situation is being created in many parts of the state.

Many IT professionals in India’s Silicon Valley use tractors to reach their workplaces. ANI reported that Yamlur which is close to HAL airport has submerged in water.

The city has broken all records for the wettest year in its recorded history, with the capital of Karnataka receiving 1706 mm of rain so far in 2022. This feat was achieved after Bengaluru broke the previous record of 1696 mm rainfall in 2017.

Last week, heavy rains in Karnataka claimed 13 lives. Following the situation, on 13 October Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai ordered officials to visit flood affected area And complete the relief works on priority basis.

He also ordered strict action against any employee who was found to be negligent during the relief work. The CM of Karnataka took note of the situation and warned to leave no stone unturned in the relief system.

Significantly, the state has been in the grip of incessant rains since October 1. From houses to crops, the rains have caused huge property damage and claimed many lives in Karnataka.
