Earlier, Afif Hossain smashed 39 for Bangladesh while Mahmudullah scored a much-needed 27 to help his team reach a challenging total of 183/7 in 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Vanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne took two wickets each while Mahesh Thekshana took one wicket.

Opting to bowl first, debutant Asitha Fernando gave Sri Lanka their first breakthrough as she dismissed Sabbir Rahman. The batsman went on to score five runs, and the team’s total was read at 29/1 after 4.0 overs. captain Shakib Al Hasan Then came to the crease. Mehdi Hasan Miraj shifted gears and hit Asitha Fernando for a six and a couple of fours. The explosive pair of Hasan Miraj and Shakib took their team’s total to 50 runs in 6 overs.

Wanindu Hasaranga dealt another blow to Bangladesh as he smashed 38 off 26 balls, sending hard-hitting player Mehdi Hasan Miraj packing. Mushfiqur Rahim then came to the crease but could not last long as he was dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne for just four runs. Shakib, easing some of his team’s pressure, dismissed Chamika Karunaratne for 10, the over being decorated with two consecutive fours.

Shakib completed 6,000 runs in international cricket with a four in the over. Bangladesh team ended 10 overs with a score of 85/3. Shakib’s blistering form came to an end as Mahesh Thekshana bowled a brilliant delivery to dismiss the Bangladesh captain. Shakib returned to the pavilion after scoring 24 runs in 22 balls. Mahmudullah then came to the crease to join hands with Afif Hossain to ease some of the team’s pressure.

Hussain hit a blistering six in the 13th over to take his team’s total past 100 runs. Mahmudullah then teamed up with Hossain to dodge the Sri Lankan bowlers around the field. He bundled Hasranga for 14 runs in the 15th over. Both the batsmen were in red-hot form as they slammed the Sri Lankan bowlers, collecting much-needed runs for their team.

Hussain’s hitting was cut by Dilshan Madushanka, who made 39 off 22 balls to send him packing. Mahmudullah also fell victim to Hasranga’s spin by scoring 27 runs in 22 balls. Mosaddek Hossain hit two fours back after another off Asitha Fernando and helped his team post a total of 183/7 on the board.

Sri Lanka chased down 184 runs after Mendis’s 37-ball 60 and Shanaka’s 45-run knock. Despite losing wickets at crucial stages, Sri Lanka’s tail hung there and took the team home.

Chamika Karunaratne (16 runs off 10 balls) and Asitha Fernando (10 runs off 3 balls) played important small innings to take the team past the winning mark.
