Banned tomorrow, welcome today

The withdrawal of agricultural laws and the crossover of several senior Congress leaders seems to have given the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the much needed push to make its presence felt across the political spectrum of Punjab.

After being virtually dormant for several months in the wake of agricultural laws, the party seems to be on a backwards trajectory as the Sangrur elections draw closer.

Barely a few months back, BJP leaders in Punjab were being harassed by anti-agriculture law protesters, not being allowed to hold any political meetings.

With the withdrawal of agricultural laws and several senior Congress leaders joining the BJP, it seems that the party is campaigning extensively for this crucial by-election.

There were massive protests against the party in the villages of Sangrur and even BJP leaders were not allowed inside.

Now compare it with the images. The then banned BJP leaders are now holding meetings in villages, visiting farmers and sharing their party’s policies to seek votes for their candidate, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Several groups of workers led by Punjab BJP unit chief Ashwini Sharma, party candidates and other leaders are visiting different villages.

Sharma along with other party leaders has been visiting common places and farmers’ houses in various villages. He interacts with them and informs them about various programs of the party and also answers the questions of the farmers.

Till date, BJP leaders have not faced any opposition from farmers regarding any issue related to farming.
