He also said that the Shiv Sena and the BJP, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will jointly contest the upcoming Mumbai civic polls.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that the Baramati constituency, the pocket borough of NCP president Sharad Pawar, comes under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “Mission Maharashtra”. He also said that the Shiv Sena and the BJP, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will jointly contest the upcoming Mumbai civic polls. Speaking to reporters at Nagpur airport, Fadnavis said, “BJP has (prepared) mission India and Mission Maharashtra. As Baramati is in Maharashtra, it clearly comes under Mission Maharashtra,” he said.

Fadnavis was replying to a question on Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s visit to Baramati constituency. Bawankule has said that the BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance will win the Baramati constituency, which is currently represented by NCP’s Supriya Sule, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with 45 of the state’s total 48 constituencies. Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, said there was no need to compulsorily display the photographs of social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule at the state secretariat in Mumbai as they live in people’s hearts.

“There is no need to make it (showing pictures) mandatory because I feel Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule live in people’s hearts. However, such orders are issued several times due to the government offices running on rules. I think Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule have a lot of respect in the country.” Asked about speculations of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena contesting Mumbai civic polls together and BJP separately, Fadnavis said. Said this kind of thing is like kite flying.

“The BJP and the original Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde will contest the Mumbai civic polls together and hoist the saffron flag over the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),” he said. Bawankule had said that the BJP has started a program to reach out to every voter to expand its base in 16 Lok Sabha constituencies including Baramati in Maharashtra and win them in the next election.
