Barcelona are well and truly on their way to enjoying La Liga glory. With just five games left to play, the Spanish giants are favorites to clinch their first league trophy in four years. Latest reports now suggest that Barcelona are planning to invite Gerard Pique, who retired last year, to join the celebrations when they finally secure the title.

This disclosure has been made by Spanish journalist Tony Juanmarti. “Barcelona intend to invite Gerard Pique ahead of the celebrations which will end when they win the league,” read their tweet.

Die-hard Barca fans were overjoyed to know that one of the greatest players in the club’s history will be able to celebrate Barcelona’s victory.

Barcelona’s gesture is a fitting tribute to Pique as he is a bonafide club legend.

The 36-year-old Spaniard had announced his retirement from professional football in November 2022. Pique revealed the news by sharing a touching video message on his social media accounts. The former Spain defender expressed his gratitude to the fans and said, “This is the moment to end this phase of my life. I have always said that there will be no other club after Barcelona and that is what is going to happen. I’ll be a regular fan. I will support the team.”

Gerard Pique enjoyed tremendous success at the Camp Nou, scoring 52 goals in 615 games for his boyhood club. Pique is a three-time Champions League and eight-time La Liga winner with Barcelona.

Barcelona will aim to clinch the La Liga title when they face Espanyol in the Catalan derby at the RCDE stadium this weekend. A win in that match would be enough for Barcelona to become champions of Spain. Barca had won 1-0 against Osasuna in their last La Liga match. The winning goal in that match was scored by Jordi Alba.

After Barcelona win La Liga, the focus will shift to the summer transfer season. Reportedly, the club is pushing for Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension. There is also tremendous talk about the possible return of Lionel Messi.
