BCCI appointed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian men’s senior cricket team. Cricket News – Times of India

New Delhi: Former Captain Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team on Wednesday by BCCI.
“NS Cricket Advisory Committee involve Sulakshana Nayko And RP Singh Rahul Dravid was unanimously appointed as the head coach Indian men’s senior cricket team,” BCCI said in a media release.
Dravid, who served as the head of the National Cricket Academy, has been appointed for a period of two years until the 2023 50-over World Cup in India.
The Times of India had earlier reported that Dravid had agreed to take on the role of India’s head coach after talks with Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah in the UAE. Dravid had recently applied for the position officially as well, but it was seen as a mere formality.

Will take charge from the upcoming home series against the former India captain New Zealand, starting November 17th.

His salary will be in the range of Rs 10 crore, which is the highest for any coach in the history of Indian cricket.
The BCCI had invited applications for the said post on October 26 to appoint Ravi Shastri’s successor, whose term ends after the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

“It is an absolute honor to be appointed as the new head coach of Indian Cricket Team And I am really looking forward to this role,” Dravid said.

He also thanked his predecessor Shastri for his role in shaping the current Indian team.
“Under Mr. Shastri, the team has done extremely well, and I look forward to working with the team to take this forward.”

The BCCI sent out a press release with the following statement:
The board congratulated Shastri (former team director and head coach). B Arun (Bowling Coach), R. Sridhar (Fielding Coach) and Vikram Rathor (batting coach) On a successful stint.
Under Shastri’s leadership, the Indian cricket team took a bold and fearless approach and performed brilliantly both at home and away.
India climbed to the top spot in the Test format and made it to the final of the inaugural World Test Championship in England.
India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018-19) followed by another series win in 2020-21.
India were also the first team to win all 5 T20Is in a bilateral series when they defeated New Zealand 5–0. Under Shastri and his team’s guidance, India won all their seven Test series at home.
On Dravid’s appointment, BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly said: “The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India’s senior men’s team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. ”
He has also served Indian cricket as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Rahul’s endeavor at the NCA has nurtured many young cricketing talents who went on to represent the country at international level. I am hopeful that his new tenure will take Indian cricket to new heights,” Ganguly added.

“Having provided the much needed direction to the NCA and overseeing the progress of the boys at the India Under-19 and India A level, we believe this is a natural progression for them as a coach as well. The board will soon appoint other coaching staff, who will jointly support the head coach in achieving our goals.”
