The words used by the audience to describe Shamik Chakraborty’s stand-up comedy are deadpan, sensible and intellectual. Bengaluru-based Shamik admitted and said that he is “trying to add more variety to his performance while sticking to his natural rhythm. I am an idiot trying to be creative.” Shamik will perform at Aromale in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad on October 9. This marks a new gig tour and he will be performing in Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune in the coming weeks.

Shamik became a well-known name through his participation in live gigs and ComicstaanStreamed on Amazon Prime Video. “The purpose of participating in shows like Comicstaan I had to find an audience in front of whom I could perform. He found me instead going out to scout for the audience. It was a great place to start growing. ,

Shamik comes from a family of engineers. “My grandfather and my father are engineers and being an only child, my parents wanted me to have a stable career option,” he says. He agrees with the common joke that when one doesn’t know what he wants, he studies engineering: “Engineers come to every other house in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Many people drop out after engineering. I Worked as an electrical engineer for a few years until an open mic event changed everything for me.”

He was interested in comedy since college, but Shamik never thought that it could be a career option. He was associated with the stand-up shows of Russell Peters and George Carlin. While he was pursuing his Masters in the US, he was frequently involved in live and online stand up gigs. Returning to Bengaluru, he took a dip.

Currently the screenwriter for Voot game on top The series, which presents news and views about top sports stories, also travels to live stand-up comic shows.

He performed in Hyderabad earlier this year and said the show was “a breeze”, thanks to the warm response from the audience. He is eager to see the reactions among the new audiences who have not joined his earlier shows but is also eager to offer something new to the repeat audiences. “Some repeat viewers often say that the experience is like watching a movie a second time. You notice points you missed the first time. Since most stand-up shows follow a pre-written script, some jokes are the same. live, which are newly added based on something that happened recently.”

One of his popular jokes is an in-depth overview of Bengaluru autos who refuse to go to a requested destination. Shamik says that while traveling, he tries to reach a destination a little further and takes public transport, to understand the place and its people. He sees travel as a way to destroy, clutter the mind, and see people.

As a stand-up comic, Shamik knows how to play safe in times of social media trolling. However, he points out that people who like the show can’t be outspoken in public forums, while those who like to post negative comments go ahead and air their views: “It’s a good idea to post comments in app reviews. People who have complaints will express their views more often than people who are happy with the app experience. I would urge people who enjoy stand up shows to go ahead and tell others about it Nothing works like praise from the mouth.”
