Before the Gujarat elections, another Congress MLA left the party, in the last 2 days at number three

According to news agency PTI, in another setback to the Congress ahead of the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, party MLA from Jhalod constituency of Dahod district of the state, Bhavesh Katara has resigned from the post of MLA.

He is the third Congress MLA to resign in Gujarat in the last two days after Mohan Singh Rathwa and Bhagwan Brar.

According to an official statement, Katara went to the residence of Speaker Nimaben Acharya on Wednesday to submit his resignation. According to the report of PTI, Katara is likely to join BJP on Thursday.

Bhagwan Brar, who represents Talala seat of Gir Somnath district, has sent his resignation to Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor.

A day earlier, Congress veteran and tribal leader Mohan Singh Rathwa had also resigned from the post of MLA. He has been elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for 10 times. Mohan Singh Rathwa represents the Chhota Udaipur (ST) constituency in central Gujarat.

Earlier Rathwa and Brar had also resigned from the Congress party and joined the saffron party as MLAs.

His resignation comes at a time when the BJP is finalizing the candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections and is likely to release the first list today.

Sources told ANI, “The top officials of the saffron party have finalized most of the tickets out of the total 182 constituencies. The remaining powers have been vested with party president JP Nadda to decide on other seats.”

Gujarat will go to polls in two phases on December 1 and 5. gujarat assembly election 2022 Counting of votes will take place on December 8. In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, the Congress won 77 seats, limiting the BJP’s tally to 99 in the 182-member house.
