London: England All-rounder appointed Ben Stokes To replace Joe as their Test captain Root in the job, England and Wales Cricket Board ,ECB) said on Thursday.

Root, 31, stepped down earlier this month after winning one of England’s last 17 Tests, including a 4-0 Ashes loss in Australia and a 1-0 series loss in Australia. West Indies,

The 30-year-old Stokes, who has scored over 5,000 runs and taken 174 wickets in his 79 Tests for England, called it an “honour” to lead the Test side.
“It’s a real privilege, and I’m excited to start this summer,” said the Durham player.
“I want to thank you for everything you have done for English cricket and for always being a great ambassador for the game around the world.
“He has been a big part of my development as a leader in the dressing room, and he will continue to be an important ally to me in this role.”
Stokes, who was Root’s deputy, took an indefinite break from cricket last year to focus on his mental health, while also recovering from another operation on a broken finger before returning to the squad for the Ashes series.
England’s next Test assignment is a two-match home series against New Zealand in June.
