Bengal elections: Bhabnipur over 57% voter turnout, Samserganj highest 80% voter turnout

The Bhawanipur assembly constituency, where West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee contested, recorded over 57% turnout during the by-election (ANI).

The chief minister, who lost from Nandigram constituency in the assembly elections held earlier this year, has to win this bypoll to retain the post.

Bhawanipur Assembly Constituency, where the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee A senior Election Commission official said that in the by-elections held on Thursday, more than 57 per cent voter turnout was recorded. Murshidabad’s Samserganj and Jangipur seats recorded a high turnout rate of 79.92 per cent and 77.63 per cent, respectively, where polling had to be canceled during the April-May assembly elections following the death of two candidates.

“In Bhabnipur, 57.09 per cent voter turnout took place. During yesterday’s polling, Samserganj witnessed the highest voting.

A total of 6,97,164 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in the three constituencies. Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool Congress supremo, has been pitted against BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal and CPI(M)’s Shreejib Biswas in Bhawanipore.

The chief minister, who lost from Nandigram constituency in the assembly elections held earlier this year, has to win this bypoll to retain the post. The counting of votes will take place on October 3.
