Bengali actor Sarbanti Chatterjee quits BJP. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Bengali actor Sarbanti Chatterjee Left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.
The 34-year-old actor had joined the saffron party ahead of the assembly elections this year. She contested against Partha Chatterjee of TMC but was unsuccessful.
He cited the saffron party’s “lack of initiative and sincerity to further this cause”. West Bengal‘ as the reason for breaking ties with BJP.
Chatterjee has been keeping a distance from the BJP since it failed to oust the Mamata Banerjee government.
Chatterjee tweeted, “Sever ties with the party I contested the last state elections for. This is because of their lack of initiative and sincerity to take forward the cause of Bengal.”

However, the West Bengal BJP did not attach much importance to Chatterjee’s decision and said that “it will hardly affect the party”.
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said, “I don’t know whether she was with the party after the election or not. It will not affect the party.”
Echoing her, BJP leader Tathagata Roy, who has been targeting the party’s top leaders for the electoral debacle, called Chatterjee’s exit a “good riddance”.
Roy had criticized the BJP for fielding him in the assembly elections by including people with no political background, especially from the entertainment fraternity, and ignoring loyal and trustworthy party workers.
The former governor of Meghalaya and Tripura said, “Good riddance. I don’t remember him making any meaningful contribution on all days.”
Chatterjee, once a close aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC, had joined the BJP in March this year. He was fielded from the Behala West seat, where he was defeated by state minister Partha Chatterjee by over 50,000 votes.
The actor joins a long list of celebrities and politicians who have either quit the BJP or have stayed away from the party after its election defeat.
