BENGALURU: Four days after he was transferred from the post of Bengaluru Urban District Deputy Commissioner (DC), ias officer J Manjunath was arrested on Monday Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Manjunath is accused of taking bribe through his employees to settle the land dispute.
ACB officials said they have also arrested two of its office staff – Chetan Kumar alias Chandru, 38, a court assistant from the DC office of Malagala, and Mahesh, 41, a deputy tehsildar from Mandya, on May 21. was arrested. Bangalore Urban DC’s office trapped in a trap.
Chandru was taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh on behalf of a deputy tehsildar when the ACB officials trapped him. The trap was laid on the basis of a complaint filed by Azam Pasha from Anekal.
Mahesh was handling a dispute over a revenue land in Anekal.
Saying that he would pass the order in favor of the complainant, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. Pasha approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.
The ACB officials framed Chandru with cash, and based on his statement that he was receiving money on Mahesh’s behalf, later arrested him as well.
Further investigation revealed that Mahesh and Chandru demanded and recovered the bribe on the instructions of Manjunath. ACB officials arrested Manjunath on Monday evening.
