Sources in BMRCL said that there has been a crack in the track near pillar number between Kengeri and Kengeri Bus Terminal stations. 654. “The crack was noticed around 8.30 am. A BMRCL source said that our maintenance team reached the spot and the problem was fixed by noon.
Sources said that one of the reasons for the formation of the crack was the fluctuation in temperature/weather conditions. Officials said their trackmen regularly inspect the tracks of the 56 km Metro network.
BMRCL had spent Rs 1,820 crore on the 7.5 km south-west extension from Mysore Road to Kengeri (six stations), averaging Rs 243 crore per km. This section became operational in August 2021.
The technical snag caused huge inconvenience to office-goers, especially technical experts and government officials from places like Kengeri, who travel here. byappanahalli, Vidhana Soudha and other CBD areas.
Many trains were packed. Some commuters opted for other transport modes like cabs and auto rickshaws. “It was unexpected; cabs and auto rickshaws were also demanding more. There was no option but to pay,” said Swati P, a techie working in Mahadevapura. Some passengers boarded the BMTC buses but the buses were not available. Frequency was low and travel time was high due to traffic.
Arun K, another passenger at the Kengeri bus terminal, said: “It’s only been a year since this section was opened. How can there be a crack in the track? It should be thoroughly investigated.”
BMRCL employees union vice-president Suryanarayana Murthy said: “The crackdown is due to the poor quality of work. Action should be taken against the concerned officials and contractors. The safety of the passengers should not be compromised.”

Anjum Parvez, managing director of BMRCL, said: “There was a technical problem on the track. So we can use only one track for train operation between Mysore Road and Kengeri. We operated a few trains till Gyan Bharati metro station. We have decided to audit this section. Temperature fluctuations could be one of the reasons for the cracks.”
