‘Better Love Story Than Twilight’: Pant’s Ability to Score Big in Series Decides Awful X-End Batter

Rishabh Pant’s first ODI century helped India They defeated England on Sunday in the third and last ODI played at Old Trafford in Manchester. His unbeaten knock of 125 off just 113 balls helped the Men in Blue chase down a difficult target of 260 runs, with five wickets in hand and 47 balls to spare.

Pant performed a powerpack with 16 fours and 2 sixes. His innings pulled the visitors out of the tough spot of 21/2, with both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma back in the hut. even the likes of Virat Kohli And Suryakumar Yadav could not support him well and was dismissed cheaply.

India were playing at 72/4 when Pant and Hardik Pandya shared a 133-run stand for the fifth wicket. The latter played an aggressive innings of 71 off 55, which included 10 fours. However, the dupe could not end the show together as all-rounder Brydon fell victim to Kars.

After Pandya departed, the wicketkeeper-batsman shifted gears and headed for his maiden ODI ton and ensured India’s win.

Pant’s innings shows his maturity on the pitch. Former India batsman Virender Sehwag heaped praise on the youngster, highlighting the southpaw’s ability to step up his game in the series deciders.

“Last match of the series and @RishabhPant 17 playing brilliantly – this is a better love story than Twilight. Incredible innings from an incredible player – with huge backing from Hardik and Jadeja. #IndvsEng,” tweeted Sehwag.

The stellar performance in the third ODI against England is not the first time Pant has shown up in a series-deciding. He also played an unbeaten knock of 89 runs in the famous Gabba Test, helping India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 in 2020-21. In fact, his maiden Test century also came in the last match of the series against England in 2018.

Pant will now return for the upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies from July 29. The BCCI has rested him for three ODIs in the Caribbean. Apart from Pant, players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also not be involved in the ODI series.

In Rohit’s absence, his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian team while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be the vice-captain.
