Between government vs judiciary, PM Narendra Modi probes CJI

PM Modi tweeted, “Recently in a sunset message, CJI Justice Diwai Chandrachud talked about working in the directions of select areas within the scope of the Supreme Court’s decision. He also suggested the use of technology for this. This is a Suggested. Practical idea, which will help many people, especially the youth.”

PM Modi had stressed on the need to use local skylight in courts several times last year. He had said, “India has many languages, which draw from our cultural vibrancy. The central government is making several efforts to promote the Indian sky, which includes the option of studying subjects like engineering and medicine in one’s mother tongue. ”

At an event in October, PM Modi had said that the ambiguity of the law is a symptom. The new laws should be written in a clear manner and to bring “ease of justice” to the regional galleys so that even the poor can understand them easily. He had said that the legal language will not become a barrier for the citizens.

He had spoken on this issue in a program. That program was attended by Supreme Chief Justice NV Ramana. Justice Ramana had said, “It is a serious loophole…turns in no time…lots of hindrances come in the way of implementation of territorial jurisdictions of the High Courts.”

The government has a big role in the appointments of judges and the issue has been raised with the prime minister today amid a standoff between the government and the judiciary. Earlier today, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju referred to a remark by a retired judge on the subject in which he spoke of the “sensible view” of the “majority”.

Retired Delhi High Court judge RS Sodhi in a recent interview accused the Supreme Court of “hijacking” the Constitution.

Posting the clip of the conversation on his Twitter handle, Rijiju wrote, “Voice of a judge… The real nature of Indian democracy is its success. People govern themselves through their representatives. Elected representatives are the responsibilities of the people and legislators.” We represent. Our judiciary is independent and our constitution is supreme.”

He said, “Actually majority of the people have similar views. It is only those people who disregard the resources of the Constitution and mandate of the people and think that they are above the Constitution of India.”
