Bhagat Singh’s 20 Years As The Legend, A Look At How The Ajay Devgn Starrer Became

Ajay Devgn-starrer The Legend of Bhagat Singh completed 20 years this week. The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, was released on 7 June 2002. Even though the film didn’t do as well at the box office, it was praised by critics around the world, including an endorsement by The New York Times. Within a span of three months, there were three films that featured Bhagat Singh as the central character – The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Bobby Deol’s 23 March 1931 Shaheed, and Sonu Sood’s Shaheed Azam. However, Santoshi’s film was different.

Rajkumar Santoshi gathered a mix of talents like Farida Jalal, Raj Babbar, Sushant Singh, D Santosh and Akhilendra Mishra for the supporting cast. The legend of Bhagat Singh was Santoshi’s labor of love for which he traveled the length and breadth of the country to find suitable actors for small roles. He auditioned actors from Lucknow to Delhi and other cities in India.

AR Rahman’s music lifted the mood of the film with chartbusters like Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, Des Mere Des Mere and a very refreshing Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna. got the movie Ajay Devgn A National Award and the actor considers this role of the young revolutionary closest to his heart and as one that inspires him. He expressed his gratitude for the film on Twitter on the 20th anniversary of the film:
