Bharat Jodi Yatra: Rahul Gandhi addresses rally in Mysore amid heavy rains

Mysore (Karnataka) [India]October 3 (ANI): Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addresses a public meeting during the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ on Sunday amid heavy rains in Mysore.

Addressing the rally, Gandhi said, “This yatra is like a river that will run from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. This journey will not stop due to heat, storm, rain or cold. You will not find any hatred or violence in this river. The river will show love and brotherhood.”

No one can stop us from uniting India. No one can stop us from raising the voice of India. We will go to Kashmir from Kanyakumari, no one can stop the India Jodi Yatra.

Earlier on Sunday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi along with party leaders attended a program in Badanavalu, Mysore on the occasion of 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the 25th day of Bharat Jodi Yatra.

Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes and held a prayer meeting at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Khadi Village Industries, Badnavalu, Karnataka at 8 am.

The Congress said that on the 25th day of the Bharat Jodi Yatra, Gandhi visited Khadi Village Industries at Badnavalu in the memory of Bapu.

Rahul Gandhi also met women weavers and talked about their experiences and challenges at work. He did a plantation by India traveler Khadi Garmodyog, Badanwalu.

The aim of the march was to cover 12 states in five months. It recently reached Karnataka on Friday (September 30) and will remain here for the next 21 days before moving northwards.

The padyatra (March) will cover a distance of 25 km per day.

Meanwhile, the Congress is conducting internal elections for the post of party president, for which 20 nomination forms, including those of party leaders Shashi Tharoor, Mallikarjun Kharge and KN Tripathi, were submitted.

Kharge, a well-known loyalist of the Gandhi family, entered the fray at the eleventh hour, and several top leaders of the G-23 faction surrounded Kharge while filing his nomination papers.

Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday filed his nomination for the party president’s post at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office in the national capital.

Kharge got the support of about 30 Congress leaders for the party’s presidential election.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Congress leader KN Tripathi also filed his nomination for the party’s highest post yesterday and said “the decision of the party leaders is respected”.

Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh dropped out of the race for the post of Congress President. He also extended his support to Kharge, saying he “cannot think of contesting elections” against a senior leader like Kharge.

Singh was the second Congress leader to withdraw from the race after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot amid the political turmoil in his state. Gehlot said he would be Kharge’s proponent.

The nominations for the post of Congress President closed at 3 pm on Saturday and the results would be declared on October 19. (ANI)
