Bharat Jodo Yatra has exposed the ‘real’ Rahul Gandhi, says Jairam Ramesh

Bharat Jodo Yatra brings out the “real” Rahul Gandhi And completely changed the image of the Congress MP, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh asserted on Tuesday.

Responding to a question at a press conference in Maharashtra’s Washim, where the yatra has entered its 69th day, Ramesh said the cross-country foot-march led by Gandhi has nothing to do with any state election And if its impact has to be assessed, it can happen only in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress general secretary in charge of communications said Gandhi is “not a Dettol or Fevicol brand” to be re-branded and the Lok Sabha MP from Kerala has her own views on key issues.

“Before the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the BJP had created a certain image of him, especially on social media; It never portrayed the true Rahul Gandhi. Bharat Jodo Yatra is not showing new Rahul Gandhi, it is showing real Rahul Gandhi.

“There has been a complete change in his image due to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Today Rahul Gandhi in media or social media is not the same who was 70 days ago.

The advantage of the 3,570 km public relations program is that it is in direct contact (with the people) without any middleman. The effect of this is that the ‘real’ Rahul Gandhi is in front of everyone.

The yatra, which began on September 7 from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, has so far covered 28 districts in six states.

It entered Maharashtra’s Deglur on November 7 and has so far covered Nanded and Hingoli districts of the state. It will pass through 12 states before terminating in Jammu and Kashmir in January after covering a distance of 3,570 km in about 150 days.

Ramesh said the program has nothing to do with elections and is a separate initiative.

“This is the journey of a political party and we are fighting political challenges like economic inequality, polarization in the society. Ninety percent of the people involved in the yatra are political.

The way our party has united and the unity it has brought in the last 70 days, one thing is clearly visible… the way we have started working on time. There is an Indian Standard Time and there is a Congress Standard Time,” he said.

He said the impact of the yatra would depend on the party and not on Gandhi.

Ramesh said that from Nanded to Washim – the districts covered so far in Maharashtra – Seva Dal workers are going door to door to distribute leaflets carrying the party’s message.

“It is a door-to-door campaign. This has not happened in many years and this used to be the specialty of Congress, but we forgot it because we were in power for many years. But today is a new beginning,” said the former Union minister.

He said that earlier pamphlets were printed and then deposited in the offices of the Pradesh Congress Committee, but now Seva Dal workers are going to homes and distributing them to children and women.

“Bharat Jodi Yatra is an opportunity for the party to reach out to people. For the first time, a large number of people have come on the road at the district and block level. This is a major change in the party,” said Ramesh.
