Bharat Petroleum will shut down its Bina refinery this June – here’s why

India’s Bharat Petroleum Corp plans to shut down its 156,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Bina Refinery For about a month in June for maintenance in central India, two sources familiar with the plan said.

Sources said the state-run refiner is also planning to shut half of its 240,000 bpd Mumbai refinery in western India for three to four weeks in September-October for maintenance.

A BPCL spokesperson did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Sources said the details of the shutdown plan are “tentative” and the dates will be finalized later.

One of the sources said, “At present, after the closure of Numaligarh (refinery), the plan is to close the Bina refinery from June 1.”

Indian refiners are required to shut down units at refineries once every four years for maintenance and inspection.

Numaligarh Refinery Ltd plans to shut its 60,000-bpd plant in the northeast for about 40 days until the end of April for maintenance, a company spokesman told Reuters.
