KCR’s National Ambition: To fight an effective fight against BJP across the country, Telangana Rashtra Samithi President and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar started Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), a new version of his party- TRS.

Party sources said that a resolution to this effect was passed in the general body meeting of the party here. KCR read out the resolution and announced that the party’s general body meeting unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.

TRS workers gathered outside the party headquarters here immediately after the announcement was engulfed in celebration.

After renaming the party, the TRS leadership plans to extend its “Telangana model of good governance” to reach out to the people to enter national politics and take on the BJP effectively.

TRS sources said the general body of the TRS will meet at the party headquarters ‘Telangana Bhavan’ here and pass a resolution on the name change.

Changes as per the Representation of the People Act and relevant rules will be apprised to the Election Commission.

The TRS, in its foundation day program in April this year, had resolved that the party should play an important role in national politics in the interest of the country as the BJP was “exploiting communal sentiments” for its political convenience.

Rao’s move to intensify his political fight against the BJP coincides with the Election Commission’s announcement of the Munugode bypoll schedule in Telangana.

Polling is to be held on November 3 and the counting of votes will take place on November 6.

In 2020, the BJP emerged as a force in the Hyderabad civic polls and also won assembly constituencies in the by-elections held in areas including Huzurabad.

BJP leaders are increasingly focusing on Telangana as part of the party’s efforts to increase its presence in the southern parts of the country.

Rao on Wednesday announced a new name for the party, which was considered auspicious in view of ‘Vijayadashmi’.

A festive mood greeted TRS workers with the Warangal-based party leader distributing chickens and liquor to 200 workers, wishing KCR great success in going beyond Telangana.
