Surat: In the factory panoli GIDC of bharuch Was manufacturing Mephedrone (MD) since December 2021. This came to the fore during the investigation started after the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police busted a drug manufacturing racket last month. Police said that since the manufacturers sold the banned substance only in Mumbai, the local police did not even notice the thriving racket.
Drugs and raw materials worth Rs 2,409 crore were seized within two days by two different police teams from Infinity Research and Development Limited at Panoli GIDC. Mumbai ANC seized 513 kg MD while Bharuch police seized 1,300 liters of liquid and 82.5 kg MD in dry form. Based on the restricted quantity seized, the police estimate that a large quantity may have already been pumped into the market.
The name of the Panoli unit came up during interrogation of six people arrested after a raid on a similar unit in Nalasopara. Bharuch police arrested Chintan Pansuriya (33) and Jayanti Tiwari (29) For allegedly running the Panoli unit. Police investigation revealed that Pansuriya was in charge of operations while Tiwari was an employee there. During interrogation of both the arrested and the other accused by the Mumbai Police, it was revealed that the drugs were being manufactured at the Panoli unit since December 2021.
A senior police officer said, “Based on the statements and investigations of the arrested accused, it is clear that they were supplying drugs only to Mumbai.”
