‘Bheed’ teaser out: Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar’s film on migrant crisis of 2020

anubhav sinha new movie crowdstarring Raj Kumar Rao And Bhumi Pednekar, has dropped its first teaser. The film is a social drama, which depicts the migrant crisis arising out of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The 72 second teaser opens with black and white images of human destruction. We see hundreds of people rendered homeless overnight, sleeping on railway tracks, waiting at bus stops.

A voiceover explains that while the pictures may recall the 1947 Partition of India, they are actually from 2020’s Covid-19 pandemic.

As soon as the lockdown is announced, thousands of migrant workers lose their livelihood and homes. Hundreds of people are stranded due to the sealing of state borders.

“Once again our society was plunged into darkness,” says the voiceover as the screen fades to black and white.

crowdAccording to the makers, the film was shot entirely in black-and-white, a rare choice for a mainstream Hindi film. Apart from the teaser, first-look pictures of Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar have also been revealed. The actors are seen playing the roles of a cop and a frontline doctor respectively.

The main objective of shooting the film in black and white was to show how the scenes of social inequality during India’s lockdown were similar to those during the Partition of India in 1947.

Sinha said, “This is the story of people whose lives changed in a flash and their lives lost color when the border was drawn within the country.”

crowd There are also Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virendra Saxena, Kritika Kamra and others. The film is set for a theatrical release on March 24, 2023.
