Bhiwani death case: A mahapanchayat held in Manesar in support of Monu Manesar, accused of the alleged kidnapping and murder of two men, on Monday threatened to foil any attempt by the Rajasthan police to arrest him without “solid evidence”. Villagers claimed that two “policemen” on a motorcycle had reached the house of Mohit Yadav alias Monu Manesar, but were chased away.

Angry protesters briefly blocked traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway before the police reached the spot and persuaded the villagers to disperse. After the mahapanchayat at Baba Bhishma temple, a memorandum addressed to president Draupadi Murmu was handed over to the assistant commissioner of police, Pataudi, demanding the cancellation of the FIR registered by the Rajasthan police against Monu Manesar and a CBI inquiry into the matter.

Advocate Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, leader of a Hindu organization, said, “Gurugram police should assure that Monu Manesar’s family will not be touched. No policeman will go to their house without prior notice, otherwise they will not go back alive.”

It has been said in the memorandum that in case of any loss of life and property of Monu Manesar and his family, the government and the district administration will be responsible.

Speakers of the mahapanchayat claimed that a false case has been registered against Bajrang Dal leader and member of the self-proclaimed Goraksha Dal in Manesar and that the Rajasthan Police does not have any concrete evidence.

He alleged that the FIR was part of a conspiracy and demanded that it be quashed within 24 hours. He also demanded a fair probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He said that Monu Manesar is not absconding and will appear whenever the administration calls him.

Monu Manesar and Shrikant Pandit are among the five people against whom a case of kidnapping and murder was initially registered. Later four more accused were named in the FIR. Four of the five people initially named in the FIR lodged after the alleged abduction and murder of two Muslim men from Rajasthan have turned out to be either informers or complainants in the cases filed by the Haryana Police against suspected cow smugglers over the past few weeks.

The Rajasthan Police had named five accused Anil, Srikant, Rinku Saini, Lokesh Singla and Monu Manesar in the FIR registered on February 16 based on the complaint of the victim’s family. Later, the names of four more suspects were added to the FIR lodged at Gopalgarh police station in Bharatpur. Rinku, Lokesh and Srikant have been named as informers, while Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar is the complainant in the FIR registered in Sector 9A against suspected cow smugglers at Ferozepur Jhirka and Nagina police stations in Nuh, Haryana.
