Britain’s finance and health ministers resigned on Tuesday, in a final blow to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who sought to apologize for the latest scandal involving a sexual misconduct complaint against one of his ministers. Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced his resignation in a statement, saying he “can no longer be in good conscience.”
Moments later, Finance Minister Rishi Sunak also announced that he was resigning.
The resignations came as Johnson was apologizing for what he said, not realizing that former whip Chris Pincher was unfit for a job in government following complaints of sexual misconduct against him.
“Ultimately, it was wrong to do so. I apologize to all who have been badly affected by this,” Johnson told broadcasters.
