Patna: Death toll due to spurious liquor Samastipur This has gone up to six with two fresh deaths reported till Sunday afternoon.
With heavy crackdown on liquor smuggling and those involved in West Champaran’s Samastipur, Gopalganj and Bettiah police districts, the total number of arrests rose to 98 in the last 24 hours. The total number of arrests in these places has gone up to at least 181 after the deaths due to spurious liquor.
Now the total death toll in the incidents of spurious liquor in Gopalganj, West Champaran and Samastipur has gone up to 43, which started on the eve of Diwali.
However, the official death toll still stands at 33 as officials are confirming only 13 deaths instead of 21 in Gopalganj and 14 instead of 16 in Bettiah.

“He died late on Saturday night after which the family hurriedly cremated his body. The police reached his house on Sunday after getting information, after which the family members accepted that Singh fell ill after drinking alcohol.
The SP said that Sav had also drank alcohol with Singh and fell ill. “His family was treating him secretly at home. When the police came to know, he was taken to Samastipur Sadar Hospital, but he died during treatment,” the SP said.
He said Sao had told the police before he died that Singh had bought two small bottles of IMLF from a person named Rahul Mahato on the night of November 3. “He drank two bottles and later fell ill,” he said.
A total of 15 people were arrested in the last 24 hours after the first deaths due to spurious liquor were reported, including three directly linked to alcohol-related deaths, he said.
The SP said those arrested include Kusum Devi (35), wife of liquor smuggler Abhilash Rai, Yaduwash Rai who was undergoing treatment and a boy, Vicky Mahto.
“Mahto has bought fake IMFL bottles from a Lord Ram who is evading arrest. Mahto had then sold liquor to Singh and Sao, which led to their death.
More than 700 liters of IMFL and country liquor have been seized in Samastipur in the last 24 hours.
Gopalganj SP Anand Kumar A total of 51 arrests have been made in the district in the last 24 hours and several hundred liters of illicit liquor have been recovered. “The total arrests in the last three days are 81,” he said.
“Sealing and stamping equipments are installed in two brewing factories Manjhagarh And one was busted in the city area. Earlier one such factory was busted for drinking spurious liquor on the banks of the river.
West Champaran DM Kundan Kumar said that over 100 people involved in manufacturing and smuggling of liquor have been arrested in the last three days.
“Further raids and arrests are continuing. To further strengthen the system to check illegal liquor manufacturing and smuggling in the district, we held a massive meeting with all the SHOs and Chowkidars of the district.
