Bihar spurious liquor tragedy: CM Nitish Kumar’s ‘no compensation’ claim sparks controversy

A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said in the state assembly that no compensation would be given to the families of those killed by spurious liquor, Leader of the Opposition Vijay Sinha on Friday marched to Governor Fagu Chauhan’s residence in protest against the spurious liquor incident. Took out the march.

At least 50 people died in spurious liquor tragedy, news agency claimed ANI,

Sinha accused the ruling government of hiding the death toll due to cremation and Modi demanded an apology from the CM for his “drunk” remark.

Earlier in the day, opposition legislators created ruckus in the assembly as soon as the current Deputy CM, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, began to speak.

Yadav claimed on Thursday that the BJP-ruled states “come in the top three-four states (in terms of deaths due to spurious liquor)”. “… BJP’s agenda is only to spread hatred and lies.”

Addressing the assembly, Kumar had said, “… have been appealing – if you drink, you will die… Those who talk in favor of drinking will not bring good to you.. .”, no compensation was found to be given to the families of those killed by spurious liquor.

Kumar’s warning came for the second time this week, as he argued that the products available in a state where liquor is banned are expected to be spurious. He asked people to avoid consuming them.

On Wednesday too, the CM hit out at detractors over his ‘no liquor’ stand and shouted at BJP MLAs who entered the Well of the House. He said, “You are doing the wrong thing by opposing prohibition. This cannot be tolerated… Just remove all these people.”

From April 2016, the sale and consumption of alcohol was completely banned in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government, although implementation has been poor.
