The Bihar cabinet recently approved new rules for the appointment of teachers from primary to senior secondary level in government schools.

Chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar said on Friday that two lakh government jobs would be provided to the youth of the state in the coming months under a recruitment drive that would be launched soon.

He also assured to give proper increment and other benefits to the existing employees.

“We, a coalition of seven parties, have now decided to give government jobs to the youth of Bihar. By the end of this year, a large number of people will get jobs in the state… Recruitment drive for government jobs will be started soon and we are going to provide two lakh government jobs in the coming months. JD(U) at a function here.

He said that those who are already working under various arrangements would also get appropriate increment and other benefits.

The grand alliance government in Bihar comprises seven parties – JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPIML(L), CPI, CPI(M) and HAM – which has more than 160 MLAs in the 243-member assembly.

Kumar also accused the opposition BJP of “spreading misinformation about the new rules” which were recently approved by the state government for appointment of teachers in government schools.

The state cabinet had recently approved new rules for appointment of teachers from primary to senior secondary level in government schools.

As per the new norms, the state government will constitute a commission to recruit government school teachers.

The Bihar State School Teacher (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Proceedings and Service Conditions) Rules, 2023 were approved by the Council of Ministers.

An official of the education department said that those who have been appointed on contract basis can now become regular government teachers after passing the entrance examinations to be conducted by the commission.
