Bike rider dies after Karnataka minister’s convoy collides with police vehicle

The 45-year-old victim died on the spot.

Hasan:

A bike rider was killed in a collision with a police vehicle following the convoy of the Karnataka Home Minister in Hassan district last night. Home Minister Araga Gyanendra’s office claimed that the vehicle was not part of the main convoy, but was traveling behind them. A top police official has confirmed the involvement of a police vehicle in the accident.

Police said the accident occurred when the minister was returning from BJP chief JP Nadda’s pre-poll program in Chamarajanagar district.

The Superintendent of Police said that when the minister’s convoy was returning last night, a person was hit by a district police vehicle.

The 45-year-old victim died on the spot. A constable was driving the police car.

According to the minister’s office, he was not made aware of the accident until he was well beyond the accident site.

Reports of the home minister’s escort vehicle hitting a man and killing him are far from the truth, said a statement from his office, denying that the vehicle was part of his convoy.

However, outrage erupted over allegations that the minister did not stop his convoy despite being informed about the accident.

Police later visited the spot and shifted the body to a local hospital.

Shri Nadda yesterday flagged off BJP’s ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’ at Male Mahadeshwar in the district ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections.
