The four tournaments are Junior Women’s National Championship, Junior Men’s National Championship, Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship and Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship.

“We have taken a huge step forward by signing a multi-year contract with Fancode, which has over 50 million users, to show all National Championship matches live. India and the Indian subcontinent,” said Hockey India president and former captain Dilip Tirkey.

“We also want to introduce video referrals at the domestic level so that players can understand the process early in their careers. We aim to provide these budding stars with the same experience of playing an international match in India.”

From this year, with the Senior Women’s National Championships starting February 15 in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, each venue will have a three-camera setup to capture and live relay the action and matches will be conducted on the same lines as International matches are awarded with a “Player of the Match” award for every match.

Hockey India Secretary General Bholanath Singh said, “This is the first time that HI has taken such measures to raise the profile of the National Championship and give it a uniform look and feel.

“All the cost of these new initiatives will be borne by Hockey India and we will not burden our host member unit with these additional costs. The cash prize for the ‘Player of the Match’ will also be awarded by the federation. Umpires officiating in the national championships will be provided with radios for on-field communication and the federation is also working on introducing video referrals in the nationals.
