BJP: Bhawanipur Elections: BJP Leads In 11% Booths | Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Despite a setback in Bhawanipore, BJP Having managed to hold onto some of her traditional vote base in the posh areas of Kolkata, Priyanka Tibrewal ensured a lead in at least 31 polling stations and remained close to the Trinamool Congress in nearly a dozen booths.
However, in terms of total numbers, Tibrewal managed to hold a lead on 11% of the booths in Bhawanipur constituency, as against 32% five months ago.
Ward 63 saw minimal erosion of BJP votes in areas including Lord Sinha Road, Camac Street, Theater Road, Pretoria Street, Wood Street and Hungerford Street. This ensured an edge in 13 polling booths out of 27 booths in the ward as compared to 16 polling stations last time. Compared to most skyscrapers, the area has been a BJP base for over a decade.
In booths like 14, 19, 20, 24 and 27, the Trinamool Congress got almost half of what the BJP got. “Most of these are high-rise areas where people turned out to vote despite intimidation. In other areas they stayed away from voting,” Tibrewal said.
“Despite the organizational weaknesses in the pockets of Bhawanipur, we worked hard throughout the year in the wards where we managed to garner some leads. Interestingly, we could not secure leads in those booths where polling percentage was very high Sajal GhoshChief election agent of Tibrewal.
Ward 74 includes posh residential areas like Belvedere Road, Alipore Road and Raja Santoshi Mohan Road.
Of the 40 polling stations in the area, Tibrewal had a lead in 11 booths compared to 21 five months ago. In at least four booths, the BJP got almost twice as much as the TMC.
In Ward 70, where the BJP had managed to gain a lead since the 2011 assembly elections, it lost from the Jadu Babu Bazar – Elgin Road area. The area has a cosmopolitan demographic.
