Vijayendra said that the people of Karnataka know who betrayed the Lingayats. “We are confident that not only the Lingayat community but all sections of people will support the BJP,” the party’s state secretary said.
The BJP got its first major political opportunity in the state in 1994 and made Yeddyurappa its legislature party leader. In 1999, another Lingayat leader Jagadish Shettar was given the post.
In 2004, the BJP again made BSY its CLP leader in the assembly. In 2006, BJP formed its first coalition government with JDS and Yeddyurappa was made Deputy CM. In 2008, BJP formed the government under the leadership of BSY.
In 2019, Yediyurappa again took over as chief minister and after his resignation in 2021, Bommai, another Lingayat leader, replaced him.
