BJP meeting in Rajasthan scared of Congress’ ‘Chintan Shivir’: Gehlot

Hours ahead of a meeting of BJP national office bearers, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said the party is holding a convention in the state as it is scared after the Congress organized its ‘chintan camp’ in Udaipur recently. . He said that as soon as Congress’ ‘Chintan Shivir’ was announced, BJP also decided to hold a meeting in Jaipur. “They are scared and that’s why they are coming here,” he said. He expressed confidence that the people of the state would vote for the Congress in the next assembly elections.

Hitting out at the saffron party for its Hindutva agenda, the chief minister said the BJP was doing politics in the name of Hindus and has become arrogant under the impression that they have their support. “They are just misleading in the name of Hindutva. It will have the opposite effect. This is not in the interest of the public,” Gehlot said.

He said that during the Congress rule, resignations were sought from Chief Ministers and Union Ministers (against them) because the leadership cared about what people would think. “But these (BJP) people don’t care what people say.

He also alleged that the communal tension in Karauli in the state in April was “pre-planned”. Gehlot said that be it Karauli or Jodhpur, where communal tension has taken place in the recent past, the police controlled the situation and did not allow riots to happen.

He said that it is the agenda of the BJP to defame the Congress government in Rajasthan. He reiterated that there is an atmosphere of tension in the country so that the attention of the public can be diverted from the real issues of inflation and unemployment.

Gehlot also said that increase in crime, incidents of paper leaks etc. are the result of unemployment and it is the responsibility of both the central and state governments to provide employment to the youth. On Wednesday, the CM targeted the Center regarding inflation.

The wholesale inflation rate in the country has reached a record 15.08 percent. It is more than 10 percent for one year. Inflation has made life difficult for the common man, but the NDA government wants to maintain tension between people in the name of religion and caste so that there is no discussion on inflation and unemployment, he had tweeted. Gehlot said that after petrol and diesel, now even food items are becoming out of reach of common man. “The rupee has fallen continuously to a historic low of $1 = Rs 77.74, due to which the prices of all imported goods are increasing continuously. He said that due to fear of reduction in foodgrain production this year, inflation may increase further.

The CM further said that it seems that the economic policies of the central government have failed and they have no plan to control inflation. “Instead of diverting the nation’s attention to temple-mosque issues, the Prime Minister and the NDA government should focus on solving the problem of unemployment and controlling inflation,” Gehlot said.
