BJP Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh’s wife T. Usha Bai has requested the party’s Central Disciplinary Committee to give time to the MLA to explain why he should not be expelled from the party as he is lodged in Cherlapally Central Jail. and their custody is likely to be extended for a few more weeks on Thursday.
In a letter to Om Pathak, Member-Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, she said that her husband has been arrested on August 25 under the Preventive Detention Act and hence, on her behalf, she has sought more time to explain the show cause notice. Released on 23 August.
Mr Raja Singh has been suspended by the party after he made objectionable remarks on a social media post against a religion, claiming that it was a “reaction” to the state government allowing a stand-up comedy show by Munawwar Farooqui.
In the show-cause notice issued by Mr. Pathak, he has been given 10 days to explain why he should not be expelled as he expressed views contrary to the position of the party. The MLA was arrested by the city police after the post went viral and protests started in different parts of the city.
