BJP targets Jawaharlal Nehru in video on Partition, Congress retaliates

Visuals of Mr Nehru appeared throughout the video, while the narration spoke of the horrors of Partition.

New Delhi:

Targeting the Congress as India’s second “Partition Horrific Remembrance Day”, the Bharatiya Janata Party today released a video describing its version of the events of the Partition of India in 1947. Using archival footage and dramatic sequences from Partition sets for suggestive music and sleek editing, the seven-minute video attributed Jawaharlal Nehru to the demands of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah-led Muslim League for the creation of Pakistan Is.

The Congress hit back, with MP Jairam Ramesh saying the PM’s “real intention” to mark the day is “to use the most painful historical events as fodder for his current political battle”.

“Modern Savarkar and Jinnah are continuing their efforts to divide the country,” he said.

On 14 August last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that every year 14 August would be remembered as Partition Horrific Remembrance Day to remind the nation of the sufferings and sacrifices of Indians during the Partition in 1947. PM tweeted this morning. Day.

The BJP video featured Cyril John Radcliffe, whose Partition map nearly split Punjab and Bengal in half, and questioned how a man who had no knowledge of Indian cultural heritage could be sent to India in mere weeks. How was it allowed to split? Visuals of Mr Nehru appeared throughout the video, while the narration spoke of the horrors of Partition.

“Those who had no knowledge of India’s cultural heritage, civilization, values, pilgrimages, in just three weeks, they drew the boundary line between people living together for centuries.

Where were those people at that time who had the responsibility to fight against these divisive forces?” BJP tweeted along with the video.

Jairam Ramesh, who can be seen as a reaction to the video, said the tragedy of Partition cannot be “misused” to promote hatred and prejudice. He offered a counter to the BJP’s version of the events that led to the Partition.

He said, “The truth is that Savarkar gave birth to the two-nation theory and Jinnah fulfilled it. Sardar Patel wrote, “I felt that if we did not accept the partition, India would be divided into many pieces and completely will be ruined.”

Mr. Ramesh asked whether the prime minister would also remember Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who had supported the partition of Bengal against the wishes of Sarat Chandra Bose, and who sat in the first cabinet of independent India “while suffering the tragic consequences of partition”. The results were becoming clear”.

The Congress MP said, “The Indian National Congress will uphold the legacy of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel and many others who were relentless in their efforts to unite the nation. The politics of hate will be defeated.”

The BJP video also blames the Indian communists for the partition, claiming that their leaders supported the Muslim League and justified the demand for a separate Muslim country. However, most of the videos are filled with scenes of Mr. Nehru and Mr. Jinnah.
